- Wir über uns
The just finished ProWein trade fair at Düsseldorf was not only the biggest, best visited and most international of the last 20 years according to the official statement of the organisers, it was also an opportunity for good and intensive meetings and discussions. Among others we were able to agree upon three new big tastings for the next months and will give more detail about these as soon as they are definately confirmed.
China is on everyone's lips. Not only as a saviour for all wine-exporting nations but also as a wine producer. Having noted the excellent results of Chinese wines in international competitions, in the recent past, we have asked one of the most renowned Chinese cellars to send us some samples. Our verdict, after the tasting: Yes and no!
But let's start from scratch. Grace Vineyards is a society founded in 1997 by one French and one Chinese partner - the father of the current director, Judy Leissner - which appeared in 2001 with its first wines on the market. The company harvests about 200 hectares of vineyard in the northern Chinese provinces of Shanxi, Ningxia und Shaanxi. Grace co-operates with about 600 grape growers of whom they do not only buy the grapes but whom they offer intensive training as well.
This year was a real top year for us - at least as far as the wines are concerned which we were able to taste between January and December. If in "normal" years we are already happy to find five or ten dream wines, 2011 we were able to award this distinction an astonishing 27 times. And another 15 wines were so close to that magical line that separates the perfect wines from the the universe of the dreams that we recognized them the potential to pass it with a little more ageing.
